Space Marine 2 Devs' April Fool's Joke Sparks Fan Excitement for Game Feature

Author:Kristen Update:May 06,2025

April 1 has come and gone, leaving behind another year of memorable April Fool's Day pranks in the video game industry. One particularly amusing gag came from the team behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. On April 1, the game's publisher, Focus Entertainment, announced the release of a new Chaplain class as DLC.

"In story mode, swap out Titus for The Chaplain and experience the game as a true Codex-compliant Ultramarine," Focus declared, likely with a chuckle. This faux DLC promised a new playable character in the story mode, complete with an 'Enhanced Dialogue System.' Every five minutes, the Chaplain would remind everyone around him of the Codex Astartes' strictures, humorously stating, "the Codex Astartes does not support this action," and "I’m telling the Inquisition."

The Chaplain's special ability, dubbed Discipline, would supposedly report any minor deviations from the Codex Astartes, granting a 5% discipline bonus but a -20% brotherhood penalty. This playful nod resonated with fans due to Chaplain Quintus's role in the game's campaign, where he vigilantly monitors protagonist Titus for any signs of heresy.

The joke cleverly taps into the community's perception of the Chaplain as a meme, often likened to an overzealous school prefect. However, some fans expressed genuine interest in seeing the Chaplain added to the game as a warrior-priest, albeit without the humorous skill set.

"This would actually go hard if this was real," enthused ResidentDrama9739 on the Space Marine subreddit, sparking discussions about potential gameplay mechanics for the Chaplain.

While the Chaplain's April Fool's appearance was a jest, Space Marine 2 is set to receive a new class soon. Though Focus and developer Saber Interactive haven't revealed details, speculation points towards an Apothecary or a Librarian, the latter bringing warp-powered space magic into play.

Despite the unexpected news of Space Marine 3 entering development, Space Marine 2 remains active with its year one roadmap. Patch 7 is scheduled for mid-April, and the game will see new PvE operations and melee weapons in the coming months.
