Sony Says You Won't Have to Link a PSN Account to Play Some of Its PC Games Anymore

Sony is dropping the PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement for several of its PC games, starting with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launching tomorrow. This means players will no longer need a PSN account to play titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, God of War Ragnarök, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. The impact on other single-player PC ports remains unclear.

However, Sony is incentivizing PSN account connections with in-game bonuses. Connecting your account will unlock rewards such as early suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and resource bundles in God of War Ragnarök. The Last of Us Part II Remastered offers bonus points and an Ellie skin, while Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered provides a Nora Valiant outfit. Further benefits, including trophy support and friend management, are also available with a linked account. Sony plans to continue adding benefits for connected accounts across PlayStation Studios titles.

The decision follows criticism of the previous PSN requirement, which caused frustration among PC players, particularly in regions where PSN isn't accessible. This shift reflects Sony's response to player feedback, following a similar reversal regarding the PSN requirement for Helldivers 2 last year.
