Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Release Date Announced

The next chapter in the Sonic the Hedgehog saga is speeding towards theaters! Paramount Pictures has officially slated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for a March 19, 2027 release, according to Variety. While details remain scarce, the announcement comes on the heels of Sonic the Hedgehog 3's impressive box office performance, raking in over $420 million globally and solidifying its place as the highest-grossing Sonic film to date. This success, particularly considering the initial design controversy surrounding the first film, makes the sequel a highly anticipated event.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also holds the distinction of being the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the Super Mario Bros. Movie, further fueling the ongoing cinematic rivalry between Nintendo and Sega.

The live-action Sonic franchise continues its expansion, boasting three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off series. The films follow Sonic (Ben Schwartz) as he confronts his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), with each installment introducing more iconic characters from the games, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey), Knuckles (Idris Elba), and, most recently, Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).
