Sonic Galactic, a fan-made game developed by Starteam, evokes the spirit and gameplay of the critically acclaimed Sonic Mania. This passion project taps into the enduring love for classic Sonic titles and pixel art, offering a nostalgic experience for longtime fans.

The game's development, spanning at least four years, began with its unveiling at the 2020 Sonic Amateur Games Expo. Starteam envisioned a 32-bit era Sonic game, imagining a hypothetical Sega Saturn release. This vision manifests as a faithful recreation of classic 2D platforming, while incorporating unique elements.

The recently released second demo showcases the game's potential. Players can experience brand-new zones as the iconic trio – Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Joining the roster are two new playable characters: Fang the Sniper, a familiar face from Sonic Triple Trouble, and Tunnel the Mole, a newcomer hailing from Illusion Island. Each character boasts unique pathways within each zone, adding replayability.

The special stages maintain the Sonic Mania aesthetic, challenging players to collect rings within a time limit in a 3D environment. While a complete playthrough of Sonic's stages takes approximately an hour, the full demo, including the other characters' shorter stages, offers around two hours of gameplay. This makes the second demo a substantial taste of what Starteam has created.
