"Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat This Fall: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans"

Author:Kristen Update:May 01,2025

Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling chapter yet for its pirate multiplayer game, thanks to a treasure trove of new content. Fans can look forward to exciting additions like new game modes, ships, the legendary Kraken, and a long-awaited feature—land combat.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its roadmap for the upcoming updates. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory that stands out, promising the much-anticipated land combat feature. Players have been eager to see this since the game's initial launch last February.

In Season 3, set to launch this fall, Ubisoft will introduce land-based action, allowing players to engage in swordfights and use firearms against others. This is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what to expect, but we'll need to wait until later this year to see the full implementation.

While land combat is the highlight of Skull and Bones Year 2, there's a wealth of other content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces a new loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, will bring the Kraken, Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship into the fray.

If all these updates sound appealing, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21. This is the perfect opportunity to dive into pirate PvP action and take advantage of a reduced price (details to be announced).

Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
