"Silent Hill f: Konami's First Horror Game Rated 18+ in Japan"

The highly anticipated Silent Hill f has made headlines as the first game in the Silent Hill series to receive an 18+ rating certification in Japan. As highlighted in the Japanese-language reveal trailer that debuted last night, Silent Hill f carries a Mature rating in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan. While the game remains in active development and ratings can change, Automaton noted that previous entries like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room were rated CERO:C, suitable for ages 15 and up, while other games in the series typically received CERO:C or CERO:D ratings, for ages 17 and up. Notably, even the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team, despite its mature rating in Western countries, secured a CERO:C rating in Japan.

During last night's Silent Hill Transmission, Konami provided fans with an exclusive update on Silent Hill f, the first new mainline entry in the iconic horror series in 13 years. Initially announced in 2022, Silent Hill f transports players to 1960s Japan, where we follow the journey of Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal pressures. The narrative has been crafted by Ryukishi07, known for his work on the When They Cry visual novel series.

The reveal trailer showcased Hinako in various states of distress, bloodied and wounded, with her Japanese school uniform in tatters. While the trailer focused more on cutscenes than gameplay, it provided an intriguing look at the game's setting and unique monster designs. A potential Otherworld, traditionally characterized by rust and fans, appears to be reimagined with blood-red flowers.

As of now, there is no set release date for Silent Hill f, and no additional details were shared about No Code's Silent Hill game, Townfall.
