Sadie Sink Addresses Spider-Man 4 Casting Speculation

Author:Kristen Update:Jul 31,2025

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Sadie Sink, known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, is slated to star alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4. Deadline reported that Sink, who debuted on the big screen in the 2016 biographical sports drama Chuck, will feature in the upcoming MCU film, set to begin production later this year with a release date of July 31, 2026.

Marvel and Sony declined to comment when approached by Deadline, though the outlet speculated that Sink might portray X-Men’s Jean Grey or “another iconic redheaded Spider-Man character.”

IGN explored potential Marvel roles Sadie Sink could take on in Spider-Man 4 and future MCU projects.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Sink remained tight-lipped about the Jean Grey X-Men rumors but described them as “exciting.”

“I’m hearing this for the first time,” Sink said regarding the Jean Grey speculation.

When asked if she had discussed the role with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige or any Marvel representatives, Sink replied, “No.”

“I can’t comment on that,” she added. “But the rumors are pretty exciting!”

Sink acknowledged her familiarity with Jean Grey, noting, “She’s a fantastic character, so it’s thrilling to hear about.”

On the possibility of committing to a long-term MCU role, Sink expressed enthusiasm: “That sounds incredibly exciting.”

The conversation ended with Sink keeping her plans under wraps. Horowitz suggested revisiting the topic once her potential MCU role is confirmed.

Last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted at X-Men characters appearing in upcoming MCU films.

At the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige told attendees that “familiar X-Men characters” would appear in the next few MCU projects, though he didn’t specify which characters or films.

On integrating the X-Men into the MCU, Feige said, “You’ll see this continue in our upcoming films with some recognizable X-Men characters.”

“After that, Secret Wars will usher in a new era of mutants and the X-Men. It’s a dream come true to finally have the X-Men back.”

At the time, Marvel’s next few films, assuming “few” means three, included Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and Phase Six’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July 2025.

Mutant appearances are more likely in Phase 6 films, such as 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man 4, and 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. A key question is whether Deadpool and Wolverine will return to the MCU after their successful film this summer. Could Channing Tatum also return as Gambit?

Feige emphasized that the X-Men will play a significant role in the MCU’s future post-Secret Wars. “When preparing for Avengers: Endgame, we focused on reaching the grand finale, then starting anew,” Feige said. “Now, on the path to Secret Wars, we have a clear vision of the story ahead and beyond. The X-Men are a vital part of that future.”

Phase 7 of the MCU appears set to focus heavily on the X-Men, but in the near term, Storm debuted in What If...? Season 3, marking her first appearance in the broader MCU.

In October, Marvel Studios announced three untitled films for 2028: February 18, May 5, and November 10. One of these is increasingly likely to be an X-Men project.
