The first official trailer for the much-anticipated film "Rust" has now been released. This movie, starring Alec Baldwin, is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. You can view the trailer here.

The film's plot unfolds in 1880s Kansas, where young Lucas McCalister, played by Patrick Scott McDermott, finds himself in a dire situation after accidentally killing a rancher. Sentenced to hang, Lucas's fate takes a dramatic turn when his estranged grandfather, the notorious outlaw Harland Rust, portrayed by Academy Award nominee Alec Baldwin, orchestrates a daring jailbreak. Together, they embark on a perilous journey toward Mexico, pursued relentlessly by U.S. Marshal Wood Helm, played by Josh Hopkins, and a ruthless bounty hunter known as 'Preacher', portrayed by Travis Fimmel.

Tragically, the production of "Rust" was marred by a devastating incident on October 22, 2021, when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot by a prop gun handled by Alec Baldwin. The accident also injured director Joel Souza. Baldwin was demonstrating how he would draw his weapon from its holster when the gun discharged, despite being labeled as a "cold gun," meaning it should have contained no live ammunition.

Following the incident, legal proceedings ensued. Charges against Alec Baldwin were dropped in April 2023, while Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison for her role in preparing the gun. First assistant director David Halls, responsible for ensuring the gun was safe, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon and received a six-month probation sentence.

"Rust" made its premiere at Poland's Camerimage Festival in November 2024, where it paid tribute to Halyna Hutchins in its credits. Although Alec Baldwin was not present at the event, Joel Souza attended and spoke fondly of Hutchins, emphasizing her passion for filmmaking and her significant contribution to the art.
