Author:Kristen Update:Apr 24,2025

Robert Eggers, renowned for his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to helm a sequel to the cherished classic, Labyrinth. According to Variety, Eggers will both write and direct this follow-up to Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy, which originally starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. He will co-write the script with Sjón, his collaborator on The Northman. Previously, a sequel had been in development with Scott Derrickson, the director of Sinister, attached. However, with no progress since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to proceed with Eggers' vision.

PlayOriginally released in 1986, *Labyrinth* featured David Bowie as the enigmatic Goblin King Jareth, who abducts the baby brother of Jennifer Connelly's character. She embarks on a journey through a mesmerizing dark fantasy realm to rescue her sibling, aided by a colorful ensemble of Henson's puppets.

Beyond the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers is also set to direct a werewolf movie titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. The film will be set in 13th century England and will feature dialogue in the Old English of the period. While details are scarce, it's safe to assume that the narrative will involve a transformation into a fearsome wolf creature.

Eggers' latest release, Nosferatu, hit theaters last Christmas. This film is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent classic, set in 19th century Germany. It follows a young real estate agent dispatched to Transylvania to sell a castle to its enigmatic count, only to find himself and his wife Ellen ensnared in a web of vampiric horrors.

Nosferatu has garnered significant acclaim, earning four Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. For a deeper dive into the film, you can read our Nosferatu review here.
