The PlayStation 5 disc drive is currently available at select US retailers as of mid-January 2025. However, given past trends, this stock is unlikely to last long.

The PS5 Digital Edition, released in 2020, was the first Sony console without a built-in disc drive, a feature also absent in the 2024 PS5 Pro. Both the PS5 Pro and the newer Slim models offer modularity, allowing users to purchase and install a separate disc drive. This has led to high demand, particularly in the US, where the disc drive has been scarce for months.

Despite the ongoing shortage, some retailers have restocked. As of January 15th, the disc drive is available at Amazon US and PlayStation Direct for the standard price of $79.99. A third-party seller on Walmart is also offering it, but at a 50% markup ($122) and with limited stock.

With the disc drive still unavailable at Walmart, GameStop, and Best Buy, the shortage continues. The duration of this shortage remains uncertain.
