A Pokémon Company spokesperson acknowledged the difficulties faced by fans in acquiring the expansion due to unexpectedly high demand. They confirmed the company is working at maximum capacity to produce more cards to meet this demand. While fans may experience delays, the commitment to increased production offers reassurance.

Impact on Retailers:

Reports from PokeBeach, a Pokémon TCG fan website, highlighted the issue's impact on smaller US-based stores. Limited distribution allocations, estimated at 10-15% for local retailers, contrasted sharply with the larger quantities received by major chains like GameStop and Target. This uneven distribution exacerbated the shortage. The owner of Player 1 Services, a large Maryland-based store, commented on the situation, noting that even stores not typically carrying Pokémon TCG products were attempting to acquire the set.

This scarcity has driven up prices on the secondary market. For example, the Elite Trainer Box, yet to be officially released, is already selling for significantly more than its retail price. However, it's anticipated that increased supply will eventually stabilize prices.

Expansion Details and Release Schedule:

Initially announced on November 1, 2024, Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions launched January 17, 2025. The expansion features Tera Pokémon ex, new special illustration rare cards, and reprints of popular cards with new artwork. Additional products, including a Surprise Box, Mini Tin, Booster Bundle, and Pouch Special Collection, are scheduled for release throughout 2025. A digital version of the set launched on Pokémon TCG Live on January 16, 2025.
