Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Blown Away After Discovering Some Cards Reference Iconic Game Boy Locations

Fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket have been raving about its stunning card art for months, but a recent discovery has them buzzing even more. It turns out that some of the game's cards contain hidden details that cleverly link back to the classic Game Boy games, delighting long-time Pokémon enthusiasts.

The excitement kicked off over the weekend when Reddit user asch_win highlighted a Spearow card that subtly showcases landmarks from the beloved Pokémon games. This Normal/Flying-type Pokémon is depicted amidst a backdrop of grass, a fence, trees, and two distinct buildings. Asch_win pointed out that the purple and yellow structure in the background is unmistakably the Celadon City Department Store from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Positioned just to the left of Celadon City is Route 16 in the Kanto region, known for its fenced grassy area where players can encounter Spearow.

It's clear that the developers, Creatures Inc. and DeNA, have woven these nostalgic nods into the card designs intentionally, celebrating the franchise's origins. But the Easter eggs don't end with Spearow. Another Reddit user, jteede, discovered additional connections, such as a full-art Diglett card set near Vermillion City and a Haunter card next to the haunting Lavender Town tower. Asch_win also meticulously examined Supporter cards, uncovering further references to iconic locations in Pokémon history.

While many card illustrations depict Pokémon in dreamy, lore-free settings, some are inspired by real-world collectibles, such as certain Pikachu variants. However, it's the cards exclusive to Pokémon TCG Pocket that are capturing players' attention with these cleverly hidden Easter eggs.

The community has been tirelessly examining other cards all weekend, uncovering more delightful references. Notable finds include the S.S. Anne cruise liner subtly placed in a Gyarados full-art card, and a trio of Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards that together narrate a story by the seaside Snorlax from FireRed and LeafGreen.

Since its launch for mobile gaming fans in October, Pokémon TCG Pocket has released only one additional booster expansion set, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four packs available. Future expansions are on the horizon, and additional cards are expected to be introduced through Wonder Pick Events and other updates. As Creatures and DeNA continue to expand the card collection across different generations, players should stay vigilant for more hidden references.

In the meantime, you can dive into details about the current Wonder Pick event, featuring Charmander and Squirtle, and explore why the developers are being coy about the significance of pack choice.
