Pokemon GO Reveals New Shadow Raid Day Plans

Summary

  • Shadow Raid Day on January 19th features Ho-Oh, offering a chance to catch this powerful Fire-type Pokémon.

Pokémon GO announces a Shadow Raid Day featuring Ho-Oh on January 19th, 2025—the first such event of the year. Trainers will have another opportunity to capture this top-tier Fire-type Pokémon.

Shadow Raids, introduced in 2023, offer a unique way to obtain Shadow Pokémon after defeating Team GO Rocket. 2024 saw numerous engaging events, including the return of Shadow Moltres and Shadow Mewtwo. Ho-Oh, a Legendary Bird of Kanto, was originally added in 2020, with Shadow Mewtwo debuting at Pokémon GO Fest that same year. This event marks another exciting return of a powerful Pokémon.

Shadow Ho-Oh will be featured in five-star raids from 2 pm to 5 pm local time on January 19th. Shiny Shadow Ho-Oh will have an increased appearance rate. Players can obtain up to five free Raid Passes from spinning PokéStops, increasing to a maximum of seven. A Charged TM can teach Ho-Oh the powerful Charged Attack, Sacred Fire (130 power in Trainer Battles, 120 power in Raids and Gyms).

To enhance the Ho-Oh Shadow Raid Day experience, Niantic is offering a $5 ticket increasing the maximum Raid Passes obtainable from PokéStops to 15. The chance of receiving Rare Candy XL is also increased, beneficial for powering up level 40 Pokémon. This ticket also grants 50% bonus XP and 2x Stardust from raid battles, lasting until 10 pm local time on January 19th. An Ultra Ticket Box, including an event ticket and a Premium Battle Pass, will be available for $4.99 in the Pokémon GO in-app shop.

Despite being early in the year, the Pokémon GO event calendar is already packed. Sprigatito Community Day concluded on January 5th, and Fidough, a 2025 debut Pokémon, is available until January 7th. Further anticipated events include Community Day Classic (January 25th) and the Lunar New Year event (January 29th to February 2nd).
