Pokemon GO Event Adding Long-Requested Feature for a Limited Time

Pokemon GO Fashion Week: Remote Raid Passes Arrive in Shadow Raids!

Pokemon GO trainers can rejoice! For the first time, remote raid passes will be usable in Shadow Raids during the upcoming Fashion Week: Taken Over event. This highly requested feature, initially introduced with Shadow Raids in 2023, will be available for a limited time only.

This exciting addition to the popular augmented reality game coincides with a flurry of January updates, including the return of Ralts for Community Day. The Fashion Week: Taken Over event, running from January 15th, 12:00 a.m. to January 19th, 8:00 p.m. local time, allows participation in one-star, three-star, and five-star Shadow Raids both in-person and remotely. A key benefit: Shadow Raids offer increased chances of catching Pokémon with higher IV stats.

Limited-Time Remote Raid Access:

While the remote raid pass functionality is event-specific, a special Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day on January 19th (2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time) extends the opportunity. This raid day boosts shiny Shadow Ho-Oh encounter rates and allows teaching the charged attack Sacred Fire. Additionally, players can utilize Charged TMs to remove the Frustration move from Shadow Pokémon.

The temporary nature of this feature has generated considerable anticipation. Since their 2023 introduction, remote raid passes in Shadow Raids have been a consistently sought-after addition by the Pokemon GO community. Post-Fashion Week, this functionality will be removed.

A Glimpse into the Future?

Whether this is a trial run or a permanent addition remains uncertain. Niantic has previously faced criticism regarding the in-person requirements for Dynamax and Gigantamax battles, making the permanent implementation of remote raid passes for Shadow Raids a logical and player-friendly solution for many. Only time will tell if this limited-time event foreshadows a lasting change.
