The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently lacks plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into its competitive esports circuit. This article delves into the reasons behind this decision and explores the game's future competitive prospects.

In a February 25, 2025 interview with VGC, Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they constantly evaluate potential additions to their competitive lineup, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently under consideration. He humorously referenced Pokémon Sleep's unlikely competitive debut (following an April Fool's joke trailer), emphasizing that while they remain open to future possibilities, there are no immediate plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket's inclusion.

Early Stages and Balancing Concerns

While no official reasons have been given, fan speculation points to the game's relative youth (only four months old as of February 2025, with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) and ongoing balance issues. Although in-app competitive features exist, players have voiced concerns about balancing, impacting the viability of a competitive scene. Pokémon TCG Pocket's simplified mechanics, designed for accessibility, might also contribute to its current exclusion from the competitive arena.

The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains robust, encompassing Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all culminating in the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, August 2025.

Anticipation for Pokémon Presents and Future Updates

The upcoming Pokémon Presents event may reveal a new set for Pokémon TCG Pocket, following the January 30, 2025 release of Space Time Smackdown. While the event's content remains unannounced, speculation abounds regarding significant franchise announcements. The event could also shed light on the long-awaited Pokémon Legends: Z-A, previously slated for a 2025 release, and recently announced mega evolutions.

The Pokémon Day 2025 Pokémon Presents livestream commences February 27, 2025, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET on YouTube and Twitch. Stay tuned for potential updates on Pokémon TCG Pocket and other franchise developments.
