PlayStation Shuts Down Stars Reward Program

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 17,2026

Sony has discontinued its PlayStation Stars loyalty program less than three years after its introduction.

The rewards initiative stopped accepting new members as of today. Current members who cancel will lose access permanently, with all accumulated points being wiped.

Existing participants can continue earning points until July 23, 2025, and redeem remaining balances until November 3, 2026.

PlaySony confirmed Digital Collectibles will remain viewable despite the program's closure, allowing users to keep enjoying their virtual collectibles like the Jim Ryan bobblehead.

"Through operating PlayStation Stars, we've gained valuable insights into player preferences and are continuously adapting to industry trends," stated Grace Chen, PlayStation VP of Network Advertising, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise, on the official blog.

"After careful evaluation, we've decided to conclude the current version of PlayStation Stars while exploring how to apply these learnings to future initiatives."

The announcement didn't specify potential replacements or what specific lessons Sony learned from operating the program.

Launched in July 2022, PlayStation Stars rewarded PS5 users with redeemable points for PlayStation Store purchases and completing various activities like surveys and game trials.

The program competed with Microsoft's Xbox Rewards, with both gradually reducing their benefit structures over time.

PlayStation Stars experienced a month-long outage last summer before Sony implemented significant changes in October. These included reducing point validity from 24 to 12 months and excluding PlayStation Plus subscriptions from point accrual. Now the entire program faces permanent closure.
