PlayStation PC Games Drop PSN Requirement

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 12,2025

Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for some PC ports is changing. Starting after the January 30, 2025 release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC, PSN accounts will become optional for several titles.

PSN-Optional PC Ports:

This change affects Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming PC release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered (April 2025). Note that other PC ports, such as Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Until Dawn, will still require a PSN account.

Incentives for Using a PSN Account:

While optional, using a PSN account offers benefits:

  • Trophies and Friend Management: Access standard PSN features.
  • In-Game Bonuses: Exclusive content for specific games:
    • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
    • God of War Ragnarök: Armor of the Black Bear set and resource bundle.
    • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points, Ellie skin (Jordan’s Jacket).
    • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Nora Valiant outfit.

Sony indicates further incentives may be added.

Addressing Past Backlash:

This policy shift follows criticism regarding PSN account mandates for PC games like Helldivers 2 (subsequently reversed) and God of War Ragnarök. The limited PSN availability (70+ countries) presented significant access barriers for players worldwide. Concerns about data privacy also contributed to the negative reception.

This move suggests Sony is adapting its approach to PC gaming, offering players more choice and addressing previous concerns.
