Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears that the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's head of gaming, has recently reiterated his commitment to the Switch platform, emphasizing its role in reaching gamers who do not use Xbox or PC.

In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer was questioned about potential projects for the Nintendo Switch 2. He affirmed that just as Xbox has supported the original Switch, it intends to extend the same support to the Switch 2.

"Nintendo has been an excellent partner. It provides us a unique opportunity to engage with players who are not on PC or Xbox," Spencer explained. "This allows us to expand our community and keep our franchises alive and well, which is crucial for us as we continue to invest in our games."

Play"I'm a firm believer in what Nintendo brings to the gaming industry, and our ongoing support for them is something I value greatly," Spencer added. "Their support for our franchises is a key aspect of our future strategy."

Spencer has consistently expressed enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2, previously praising Nintendo's innovative approach during the initial teaser of the Switch 2. He also confirmed Xbox's commitment to expanding its game availability across various platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.

When Variety inquired if the Switch 2's reveal made him eager to unveil Xbox's next console plans, Spencer remained unfazed.

"No. I think everyone in this industry should concentrate on nurturing their communities and player bases," Spencer stated. "I draw inspiration from the work of many creators and other platform holders, but I have confidence in our current plans."

The Xbox executive reaffirmed the company's strategy to distribute games across as many platforms as possible, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already transitioned to Nintendo platforms, and it will be fascinating to see what Xbox brings to the Switch 2 upon its official release.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders have not yet started, keep an eye on our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for updates on when they will be available.
