Paralyzed Pokemon Explained | All with 'Paralyze' Ability Unveiled

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 03,2025

This guide details the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, including how it works, how to cure it, and strategies for incorporating it into a deck.

What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralyzed Effect

The Paralyzed condition immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for one turn, preventing attacks and retreats. It automatically resolves at the start of the opponent's next turn (after their Checkup phase).

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed automatically resolves, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific card effects to cure.

Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical TCG

Unlike the physical TCG, which offers cards like Full Heal to remove Paralysis, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks direct counter-Paralysis cards. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for one turn—remains consistent.

Which Cards Inflict Paralysis?

Cards with Paralyze

Currently, only Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno (in the Genetic Apex expansion) can inflict Paralysis. Each relies on a coin flip, making it somewhat unreliable.

How to Cure Paralysis?

Curing Paralysis

Four methods exist:

  1. Time: The effect automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon removes the effect.
  3. Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the effect (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers a conditional counter (affecting Weezing or Muk).

Best Paralyze Deck?

Paralyze Deck Example

Paralysis alone isn't a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep is more effective. A sample Articuno & Frosmoth deck leveraging both conditions is detailed below:

Sample Paralyze/Asleep Deck

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
Articuno 2
Misty 2
Sabrina 2
X Speed 2
Professor's Research 2
Poke Ball 2

This deck utilizes the combined effects of Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex to maximize the chances of inflicting both Asleep and Paralyze. Remember that this is a sample; deck building requires experimentation and adaptation to the current meta.
