Palworld developer Pocketpair is finalizing its highly anticipated cross-play update, slated for release in late March 2025. A recent X/Twitter post confirmed this update will introduce cross-platform multiplayer functionality, allowing players across all platforms to team up. The update will also add world transfer for Pals, enhancing the overall gameplay experience. While specifics remain limited beyond a promotional image depicting Palworld characters battling a large Pal, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, John 'Bucky' Buckley, hinted at "a few little surprises" included in the March update.

This news is particularly exciting for the 32 million players who have joined the Palworld community since its early access launch in January 2024. Pocketpair has outlined an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, including the cross-play update, a planned "ending scenario," and additional content for the popular creature-catching survival game.

Palworld's initial launch was a remarkable success. Priced at $30 on Steam and simultaneously available on Xbox and PC Game Pass, it shattered sales and concurrent player records. The game's success was so significant that Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe revealed the studio was initially overwhelmed by the massive profits generated. Capitalizing on this momentum, Pocketpair swiftly signed a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture dedicated to expanding the IP and bringing Palworld to the PlayStation 5.

However, the game's journey hasn't been without challenges. A lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company alleges Palworld infringes on multiple patent rights, seeking an injunction and compensation for damages. Pocketpair has responded by publicly identifying the patents in question and making adjustments to the Pal summoning mechanic within the game. Despite this legal battle, Pocketpair remains resolute, vowing to defend its position in court.
