Oscar Isaac Skips Star Wars Event; MCU Fans Speculate Moon Knight in Avengers: Doomsday

Hold onto your hats, Marvel fans—Oscar Isaac might just be making a grand return as Moon Knight, and not just in any film, but in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Surprising? Absolutely, but recent developments are lending some weight to this tantalizing theory.

Over the weekend, the official social media for Star Wars Celebration announced that Isaac would no longer be attending the much-loved convention in Japan this year due to changes in his production schedule. Back in February, Isaac's appearance at Star Wars Celebration was a major draw, fueling speculation about Poe Dameron's return to the Star Wars universe. After Daisy Ridley's announcement at Star Wars Celebration 2023 of her role in a new Star Wars film, fans were eager to see if Isaac would follow suit.

Although the specifics of Isaac's production schedule changes were not disclosed, fans quickly connected the dots to Avengers: Doomsday, currently in production in London. The buzz on social media was immediate:

While this remains just a theory, Marvel Studios is known for its surprises. Isaac's name was absent from the initial Doomsday cast reveal, but Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige hinted at more cast members during a video call at CinemaCon, saying, "We revealed many, not all." This leaves the door open for fans to dream about Moon Knight's involvement.

Isaac's portrayal of Moon Knight in the six-episode series released in 2022 was a hit, but Marvel has yet to announce a second season. Avengers: Doomsday is slated to premiere on May 1, 2026, promising a spectacular ensemble of returning heroes and new faces, as showcased in the epic livestream.

Meanwhile, MCU enthusiasts have also been intrigued by Robert Downey Jr.'s recent Doctor Doom-themed 60th birthday party invitation, adding another layer of speculation to the mix.

Last month's Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal was packed with veteran X-Men actors, including Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, confirming the X-Men's significant role in the film. Grammer, who played Beast in the Fox X-Men franchise, made his MCU debut in The Marvels' post-credits scene. Stewart, known for his role as Charles Xavier/Professor X, appeared briefly in the MCU in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as part of the Illuminati. Meanwhile, McKellen (Magneto), Cumming (Nightcrawler), Romijn (Mystique), and Marsden (Cyclops) have yet to appear in the MCU.
