Onimusha: Way of the Sword New Trailer Shows Off New Gameplay, Protagonist

Capcom unveils new gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The trailer, showcased at the PlayStation State of Play event, features the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the protagonist.

The trailer highlights the game's dynamic sword combat and impressive boss encounters. While still a year's away, the visuals and action sequences are already generating significant excitement.

Miyamoto Musashi's portrayal blends his historical prowess with a charismatic, even comedic, personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game, noting that Musashi's likeness is based on the renowned actor Toshiro Mifune, known for his samurai roles.

The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, under siege by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is unleashing hellish creatures upon Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha series in two decades. To bridge the gap, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
