Home > News > Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades for Games Like Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4 Announced
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly the entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, select titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions with unique features. These include fan-favorites like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each game's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition offers distinct enhancements. The spotlight started with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a new feature called "Jamboree TV." This upgrade brings mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble effects, and innovative gameplay using a new camera accessory.
Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, set to receive improved resolution, frame rate, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to aid in locating Shrines and Koroks, and allows players to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is getting a new, exclusive story titled "Star-Crossed World," along with enhanced graphics and frame rates.
New titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also receiving upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and frame rates.
These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for certain games, including Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

Later in the presentation, third-party titles were highlighted, such as Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will offer Switch 2-exclusive game modes.
The buzz around "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week with a small footnote on a webpage related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system. It noted that these games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
