"Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour: A Paid Experience"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 09,2025

Nintendo has unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a unique digital game designed to introduce players to the capabilities of the new Switch 2 console. Contrary to expectations, this isn't a complimentary pack-in title but a separate, purchasable digital game. During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the game was described as a "virtual exhibition" that educates players about the new hardware through engaging tech demos, minigames, and interactive features.

Footage from the Direct showcased a miniature player avatar navigating a gigantic representation of the Switch 2, exploring its features and learning about its capabilities. The game functions as a virtual museum, offering interactive experiences like Speed Golf, Dodge the Spiked Balls, and a Maracas Physics Demo. Nintendo confirmed via the live stream and a press release that the Switch 2 Welcome Tour will be available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop on the Switch 2's launch day.

While the concept is intriguing, fans have expressed surprise and curiosity about why this educational tool is a paid digital-only game rather than a free addition to the console. As of now, no specific pricing information has been released.

The Switch 2 will launch with a robust lineup including titles such as Mario Kart World, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Deltarune Chapters 1 through 4. While the Welcome Tour offers an insightful look at the new console, it will be vying for attention and budget amidst these other high-profile releases.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to hit the market on June 5, 2025, with a price tag of $449.99 USD, or $499.99 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World.
