Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions, hinting at a larger form factor closer to the Steam Deck.

Key features observed include magnetically attached Joy-Cons, featuring SL and SR buttons with a magnetic release mechanism activated by a dedicated button on each controller. CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed this in an interview with The Verge, emphasizing the secure feel despite the magnetic design. Furthermore, the Joy-Cons incorporate optical sensors, suggesting potential functionality as mouse-like peripherals via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.

The Switch 2, while larger than its predecessor, maintains a slim profile allowing it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, design differences render it incompatible for use with the older dock. The purpose of a new "C" button and an additional USB-C port remain currently unknown.
