Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls Enhance Home Menu Navigation

Author:Kristen Update:May 22,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players can utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen, adding a new layer of interactivity to the user interface. Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have been buzzing with excitement over the new Joy-Con's mouse control capabilities. Last month, we received official word that the Joy-Con could function in "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers over surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. Additionally, it's possible to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at the same time, one in each hand, or pair one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode for versatile gameplay options.

Now, the capabilities have expanded even further. As demonstrated in the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls are fully functional on the Switch 2's Home menu.

"If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen," Nintendo explained. "To display the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown. While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," they added. "Use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." To revert to using the thumbstick, just position the Joy-Con 2 horizontally again.

Although we don't have a full list of games that will support these mouse controls, Nintendo has already demonstrated the technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
