Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Increased Costs

Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accessories. While the console itself maintains its price point, there have been notable adjustments to the cost of accessories, sparking discussions among fans about their pre-order decisions.

The base model of the Nintendo Switch 2 remains priced at $449.99, with the bundle including Mario Kart World set at $499.99. Mario Kart World, a beloved kart racing game, continues to be available as a standalone purchase for $79.99, while the new title, Donkey Kong Bananza, will retail for $69.99.

However, the real shift comes with the accessory pricing, which has seen an increase across the board. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the new prices:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99

In its announcement, Nintendo explained that these "price adjustments" for Switch 2 accessories are due to "changes in market conditions." Notably, the price increase for high-end items like the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera is a consistent $5 bump. The Switch 2 Dock Set saw a $10 increase, moving from $109.99 to $119.99.

The new pricing for accessories, particularly the Joy-Con 2 Pair nearing a triple-digit cost at $94.99, has left many potential buyers surprised and concerned about the expense. This has led to a wave of discussions and reactions across social media platforms.

However, amidst the pricing concerns, there's a silver lining: many accessories from the original Nintendo Switch are compatible with the Switch 2. According to Nintendo's support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro Controller can be wirelessly paired with the new console, although the former cannot be directly attached. Additionally, classic controllers like those for the Super Nintendo and N64 will also work with compatible games on the Switch 2.

The compatibility news has led to discussions about using existing or third-party accessories as a cost-saving measure. While these alternatives may lack some of the new functionalities like the C-button or the ability to wake the console, they present a viable option for those looking to manage their spending.

Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments may occur, stating, "Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions." This statement offers a reminder that the current prices might not be set in stone.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025, giving fans time to consider their options and plan their purchases accordingly.
