The development of NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black was spurred by fan feedback following the 2021 release of the NINJA GAIDEN Master Collection. Players expressed a desire for an experience akin to the original NINJA GAIDEN 2, prompting Team Ninja to address concerns about the future of Ryu Hayabusa, especially in light of NINJA GAIDEN 4's new protagonist.
