Netflix Cancels Stories, Yet It

Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief yet notable experiment in narrative gaming. This decision may come as a surprise to many, given the solid player base these games had cultivated. So, why exactly did Netflix Stories get the axe? Let's dive into the details!

The news was first confirmed by Variety and is part of a larger strategic pivot at Netflix Games. The company is now setting its sights on developing mobile titles across various genres including party games, kids' games, mainstream releases, and more interactive experiences that can be enjoyed on TV screens.

Despite this shift, Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, such as the highly anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.

Is Netflix Stories Shutting Down?

Despite facing some criticism, the Netflix Stories games consistently ranked among the most-played titles on Netflix Games, currently sitting at fourth place in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, which tracks playtime rather than downloads.

As for the future of the series, the last interactive title to be released under the Netflix Stories banner will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once this rollout is complete, no new games will be developed under this label. Interestingly, this announcement follows closely on the heels of the Netflix Stories app teasing its next game, The Love Contract, slated for an April 8th release. Unlike previous entries, The Love Contract was an original romance story featuring an actress navigating a complex love triangle with a Hollywood star and a billionaire, enveloped in a world of fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this game has now been cancelled.

While no new titles will be added to the Netflix Stories lineup, existing games such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple will remain accessible to players. However, planned sequels for popular shows like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have also been cancelled.

So there you have it—the full story on why Netflix Stories is coming to an end! If you're a fan of Netflix shows, you might want to check out these games on the Google Play Store before they're gone.
