Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) emerged as one of this year's most popular releases and became Capcom's fastest-selling game. However, player activity has significantly cooled since its explosive launch, with concurrent player numbers experiencing a sharp decline three months post-release.

As highlighted by Monster Hunter YouTuber Zenny, MH Wilds' concurrent player count began halving starting in May, bringing it closer to the figures of the older series entry, MH World. SteamDB data shows MH Wilds' 24-hour peak at 41,101 players, now edging closer to MH World's 26,479 at the time of reporting.

For context, during its third month on Steam, MH World maintained over 100,000 concurrent players—surpassing MH Wilds' current count of roughly 40,000. Many players attribute this drop to MH Wilds' limited endgame content, even with Title Update 1's release. The upcoming Title Update 2 this Summer could revive the player base by introducing new monsters, events, and more.

MH Wilds x Street Fighter Collaboration Teased

A potential player draw for the future is a crossover with another iconic Capcom franchise: Street Fighter. On May 19, Monster Hunter's official Twitter (X) account posted an image of a paw print styled after Street Fighter 6's urban aesthetic.

While official details are yet to be confirmed, a collaboration is highly plausible given past crossovers between the franchises in MH World. That collaboration included Ryu and Sakura armor sets, paid DLC gestures like Hadoken and Shoryuken, a Handler Chun-Li costume, and other items.

This crossover would represent the first for MH Wilds, and fans are eager to see how Capcom will approach the event. The Monster Hunter series is well-known for its numerous crossovers with other major IPs, including Devil May Cry and Sonic in MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem in MH Generations Ultimate, and Assassin's Creed and Mega Man in MH World, among others.

Despite the recent dip, expectations remain high for MH Wilds to regain momentum with the content scheduled for the rest of the year and beyond. Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To stay informed on the latest news and updates for Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our related article below!
