Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision

Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative feedback generated by the initial announcement in Dev Talk 10.

The original plan, detailed in Dev Talk 10, would have seen players' ranks reset four divisions every 45 days. This was met with widespread criticism from the community, who argued that such frequent resets were demotivating.

Dev Talk 11 confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their current rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset remains in place, dropping players six divisions.

New Heroes and Other Updates Remain on Track

Despite the reversal on mid-season resets, other planned updates are proceeding as scheduled. The highly anticipated additions of Human Torch and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes, are still on track for release. This aligns with NetEase Games' previous commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season.

Reward structures for high-ranking players (Gold and above) also remain unchanged. Players who achieve Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, are planned for the end of the season. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics are yet to be revealed.

Community Feedback and Developer Response

Marvel Rivals' rapid response to player concerns has been praised by the community. The developer's swift turnaround, issuing Dev Talk 11 just hours after Dev Talk 10, demonstrated a commitment to listening to player feedback. The developers emphasized their dedication to community input, stating their goal is to create the best possible game experience.

The mid-season update is scheduled for release on February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
