Marvel Rivals Players Are Risking Account Bans to Mod the Game Even After Season 1 Clampdown

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 21,2025

Despite a Season 1 crackdown, Marvel Rivals players continue to risk account bans by using mods. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized skins, transforming characters like Iron Man into Vegeta and Mantis into a goth, even turning Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita.

NetEase, the developer, implemented asset hash checking to restrict mods, reiterating that their terms of service prohibit mods, cheats, and unauthorized third-party software. They warned of potential bans, stating that modifying game files is not recommended.

However, a workaround is now circulating, requiring more steps but remaining accessible to many PC players. Modder Prafit, who shared a workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users about the risk of bans, noting that while permanent bans haven't been observed, NetEase could still take action.

New mods featuring the Fantastic Four have emerged, such as one transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy, already boasting over 5,000 downloads in two days. A tweet from @RivalsLeaks highlights the continued modding activity.

The uncertainty lies in whether NetEase will follow through on its ban threats. While no confirmed ban for mod usage exists yet, the workaround's prevalence might trigger further action.

NetEase's motivation for banning mods likely stems from potential revenue loss from skin sales, intellectual property concerns, gameplay imbalance, and potential performance issues. Prafit even suggests the workaround is only suitable for high-spec PCs.
