Longtime readers might remember our 2019 review of the quirky battle royale King of Crabs. While it didn't completely win us over then, developer Robot Squid is giving the franchise fresh life with King of Crabs - Invasion.

Rather than revisiting battle royale mechanics, Robot Squid is venturing into RTS territory this time. Imagine Age of War but with crustaceans - King of Crabs - Invasion challenges you to strategic battles across linear arenas.

Success requires smart unit deployment - from standard crab troops to catapults and armored crustacean fighters. With diverse battlefields and tactical obstacles, victory won't come easily.

The game cleverly adapts the original's chaotic crustacean combat into an RTS format. For such an absurd premise - crabs battling to the death - this genre shift feels surprisingly fitting.

That said, given Cameron's critiques about the first game's shallow concept, I wonder if Invasion's novelty will sustain long-term interest. The only way to know? Try it yourself when King of Crabs - Invasion arrives on May 30th!
