Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 15,2025

Jason Momoa is set to bring the iconic DC character Lobo to life in the upcoming 2026 film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter known for his superhuman strength and immortality, is the last survivor of the planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.

Momoa, previously known for portraying Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), will transition into the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) with this new role. He has expressed his enthusiasm for the character, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book figure and highlighting their aesthetic similarities.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa provided a glimpse into Lobo's role in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." He described the character's appearance as true to the comic, emphasizing Lobo's rough and gruff nature. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa shared. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."

When asked about Lobo's screen time, Momoa noted, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."

PlayIn January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it revealed little about the film. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming had begun on "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," featuring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.

The movie draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, which follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeking vengeance for her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.

Scheduled for release in June 2026, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" will be the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's "Superman" this summer. The DCU's "Clayface" movie is slated for September 2026.
