Hot on the heels of Microsoft's casual mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong in an official Xbox post, backend changes to the game's Steam listing have fueled speculation that it's set for a re-reveal and potential release soon.

As observed across social media, Reddit, Discord, and other online communities, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated on March 24. According to SteamDB, these changes include an opt-in for Hollow Knight: Silksong on GeForce Now, Nvidia's video game streaming platform, updated assets, and a significant modification to the Steam store page's legal lines, now listing Hollow Knight as copyrighted by Team Cherry 2025, rather than 2019.

These updates suggest that something related to Hollow Knight: Silksong may be happening soon, potentially pointing to a 2025 release. With Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, fans might not have to wait long to discover more.

PlayIt's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong. In the intervening years, there have been sporadic updates, but also long stretches of silence from the developers at Team Cherry.

January, however, was a particularly active month for eager Hollow Knight fans, with cryptic X/Twitter posts from one developer sparking rampant speculation about a potential re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct — and possibly even a release on Nintendo's next-gen console as a timed launch exclusive.

It's important to remember that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed the launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. It's also one of the most-wanted Game Pass titles following Microsoft's deal with Team Cherry to bring Silksong to its subscription service on day one.

However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong had been delayed past the first half of 2023, promising more details as the game approached its release date. At the time, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, Matthew Griffin, stated: "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. In IGN's review of Hollow Knight, we noted: "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of stories for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an incredible amount of choice in how you explore it. With such a high density of secrets to uncover and fun, challenging enemies to face, it's worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
