HBO Exec: The Last of Us Likely to Run for 4 Seasons

Author:Kristen Update:May 14,2025

HBO's critically acclaimed series, *The Last of Us*, is set to captivate audiences for a total of four seasons, according to executive Francesca Orsi. While Orsi noted to Deadline that there's no "complete or final plan" yet, she hinted at the potential for "this season and then two more seasons after this, and we're done." This suggests fans can look forward to an extended journey through the post-apocalyptic world inspired by the video game series.

As we eagerly anticipate the show's return in April 2025, Orsi teased exciting developments in Season 2, focusing on "various factions competing for survival." She highlighted a new survivalist group that will be introduced, noting their unique presentation in terms of "wardrobe and makeup," setting them apart from the average survivors we've seen so far.

If you haven't yet experienced the gripping first season, there's still time to catch up before Episode 1 of Season 2 premieres in April. Unlike Season 1, which adapted the entirety of the first game, HBO has decided to spread *The Last of Us Part 2* over multiple seasons. Specifically, Season 2 will conclude at a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes, promising a more detailed exploration of the story.

Season 2 will bring new characters to the forefront, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. The role of Catherine O'Hara remains a tantalizing mystery, adding to the anticipation.

In IGN's review of *The Last of Us: Season 1*, the series was praised as "a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey alike," earning a remarkable 9/10 score.
