GTA 6 Mapping Project Surges Ahead Post Trailer 2: 'Information Overload'

Author:Kristen Update:May 14,2025

The highly anticipated GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2. Garza, a key figure overseeing the GTA 6 Mapping Discord, told IGN that the new trailer "really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." With the community buzzing, the project's 370 members, soon to surpass 400, are diving deep into the wealth of new details provided by the trailer.

"It’s an information overload," Garza explained. "We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started." The project, which began after the massive September 2022 leaks, aims to create the most accurate map of GTA 6 possible. Prior to Trailer 2, the mapping efforts were based on those leaks and December 2023's Trailer 1. However, the latest map version released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March is now outdated, as Trailer 2 has introduced a flood of new information to enhance the project's accuracy and detail.

Rockstar's Trailer 2 not only confirmed plot details and characters but also released 70 new screenshots of GTA 6. Additionally, it unveiled various explorable locations in the state of Leonida, GTA 6's rendition of Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City, mirroring Miami, the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a notable landmark near the state’s northern border.

The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of every element shown, striving to align images of fictional spaces with their real-world inspirations. Once their efforts are complete, DuPz0r plans to release an updated map, providing fans with the most comprehensive preview yet of GTA 6's world ahead of its May 2026 release.

Should Rockstar release more assets or gameplay footage in the interim, the mapping project will continue to evolve. The true test of their accuracy will come only when GTA 6 launches, allowing for a direct comparison between the fan-created map and the actual game world.

However, the project faces the looming threat of intervention from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. In March, a modder who had created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 ceased all work following a takedown notice from Take-Two. When asked last year about potential action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern."

"This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community," Garza noted. "However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."

As the community eagerly anticipates further developments, stay tuned for more updates on GTA 6, including all the details we’ve uncovered so far and the latest fan theories inspired by Trailer 2.
