George R.R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, has declared his enthusiasm for the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, calling it "as faithful an adaptation as one could reasonably expect."

In a recent blog post, Martin revealed that HBO has completed filming for the six-episode series, slated for release later this year, possibly in the fall. Unlike the previous spin-off, House of the Dragon, Martin expressed strong approval.

"Having viewed all six episodes (the final two in rough cuts), I was thoroughly captivated," he wrote. "Dunk and Egg have always held a special place in my heart, and the actors chosen to portray them are simply outstanding. The entire cast delivers exceptional performances. You'll be particularly impressed by the Laughing Storm and Tanselle Too-Tall."

The series adapts The Hedge Knight, the first novella in the Dunk and Egg series. Martin emphasized its fidelity to the source material, acknowledging his own reputation for meticulousness in such matters.

However, he cautioned viewers not to expect non-stop action. "While there's a spectacular fight scene, the show prioritizes character development over large-scale battles or fantastical creatures," he explained. "It's a character-driven narrative focusing on themes of duty, honor, and chivalry."

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon Targaryen (Egg). HBO has already released promotional images and a short teaser trailer.

Martin concluded his post with a playful reference to his long-awaited novel, The Winds of Winter: "Next up is adapting 'The Sworn Sword,' the second Dunk & Egg tale. And once The Winds of Winter is complete, I'll need to tackle 'The Village Hero' and the remaining stories. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll all keep me on track!"
