Game Informer Returns Under Neill Blomkamp's Studio

Just over six months after its closure by GameStop in August 2024, Game Informer is making a triumphant return, with the entire team back in action. In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller announced that Gunzilla Games has acquired the rights to Game Informer from GameStop. The new owners are not only bringing back the editorial team but are also committed to expanding the production and overall scope of the publication.

For those who might not know, Gunzilla Games is the creative force behind the free-to-play extraction battle royale game, Off the Grid, currently in Early Access. They are also the developers of GunZ, a pioneering "Layer-1 blockchain ecosystem" that supports community-driven economies in AAA games, including Off the Grid. Adding to their impressive roster, Gunzilla Games boasts Neill Blomkamp, the acclaimed director of District 9 and Chappie, as their chief creative officer and co-founder.

Miller emphasized that Gunzilla Games is dedicated to maintaining Game Informer's independence. The new owners are firm believers in the importance of an editorial team that retains full control over content decisions, free from external influence. As a result, Game Informer is now operating under a new entity, Game Informer Inc., and has brought back its over 30-year legacy, which was abruptly halted last August.

Determined to bridge the gap in their coverage, the team has prepared "dozens" of new reviews for games released during their hiatus, along with their Best of 2024 awards. Fans of the print edition will be pleased to know that the magazine is set to return, with plans to make it "bigger and better than it was before." In the coming weeks, Game Informer will introduce new membership and subscription benefits, enhance their video, streaming, and feature coverage, and broaden the range of experts and partnerships they engage with to bring diverse perspectives to their audience.
