Excitement is building for the final chapter of the FF7 Remake trilogy, as the game's producer and director have confirmed that FF7 Remake Part 3 will launch on the PS5. Dive into the latest updates and what this means for the beloved series.

Fans of the PlayStation can breathe a sigh of relief: FF7 Remake Part 3 is set to arrive on the PS5. In a reassuring interview with 4Gamer on January 23, 2025, producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the platform for the trilogy's final installment. Addressing concerns about the release pattern of previous games in the series, Kitase stated, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)."
While the PS5 is currently mid-cycle, there's speculation about the trilogy's future on the PS6. However, details on this remain scarce.

Square Enix has kept the release date of FF7 Remake Part 3 under wraps, but progress reports are promising. Development reportedly started in tandem with Part 2, with full production kicking off post the February 2024 release of FF7 Rebirth. Thanks to the reuse of assets from the first two games and a completed story draft, fans might not have to wait too long.
In an update to Famitsu on January 23, 2025, Hamaguchi shared optimistic news about the development. "It’s going very well," he said, adding that they began working on Part 3 immediately after finishing FF7 Rebirth. "We have a build that will confirm what we should aim for as a game by the end of 2024, and we can already see the direction of where we will land, so we have been working towards that goal since the beginning of this year. We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it."
Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the story's conclusion, promising a fulfilling end for fans.

While an exact release date remains undisclosed, a report from the Washington Post on March 6, 2024, suggests that FF7 Remake Part 3 will follow the trend of its predecessors with a timed exclusivity on PS5. The original FF7 Remake was exclusive to PS4 for a year before reaching PC via Epic Games Store and Steam. FF7 Remake Intergrade enjoyed a six-month exclusivity on PS5 before its PC release, and FF7 Rebirth was available on PS5 until its PC version launched on January 23, 2025. If this pattern holds, FF7 Remake Part 3 will initially be a PS5 exclusive before expanding to other platforms.

Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's financial results from March 31, 2024, indicate declining sales for their HD titles, including FF16, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, and FF7 Rebirth. The company cited increased development costs, advertising expenses, and content valuation losses as reasons for operating losses.
In response, Square Enix is shifting towards a multi-platform strategy, aiming to reach Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs. This move could potentially boost sales and bring more of their HD titles to a broader audience, including Xbox and the upcoming Switch 2, despite their longstanding partnership with PlayStation.
