In a surprising turn of events, early gameplay footage of the eagerly awaited next installment of the Fable series was unexpectedly unveiled during the Official Xbox Podcast. This sneak peek offered fans a glimpse into various locations within the game world, an in-depth look at the combat system, different types of enemies, and a brief snippet of a cutscene. Notably, the iconic chicken kick, a beloved feature from previous games, also made an appearance, much to the delight of long-time fans.

Prior to this reveal, the head of Xbox Game Studios had announced a delay for Fable—pushing its release from 2025 to 2026. The cited reason for this delay was the need for additional polish and refinement, a common necessity in game development to ensure a high-quality final product.

The reboot of this iconic series was initially announced on July 23, 2020. Since then, information about the game has been scarce, leaving fans in suspense. Three years post-announcement, it became evident that Fable was still in its early development stages, indicating a longer development cycle than initially anticipated.

The main developer, Playground Games, enlisted the help of Eidos Montreal to aid in the project, further highlighting the complexities and challenges faced during development. The absence of polished gameplay footage until now suggests that the game has encountered significant issues along the way. This unexpected reveal during the podcast has reignited interest and speculation about the future of the Fable series.
