"Evil Dead: Game Removed From Stores 3 Years Post-Launch, Servers Stay Online"

The curtains have fallen on Evil Dead: The Game, an asymmetric multiplayer title inspired by the iconic action horror franchise. Launched in 2022 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the game initially garnered praise, earning an 8/10 from IGN. Our review highlighted its thrilling cat-and-mouse gameplay, though noted its rough edges, which mirrored the charm of the films that inspired it.

Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition the following year, the game struggled to maintain its player base. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and content development ceased, signaling the beginning of the end. Now, three years after its debut, Evil Dead: The Game has been removed from digital storefronts by its publisher and developer, Saber Interactive.

In a statement on the game's Steam page, Saber Interactive confirmed the removal but reassured existing owners that the servers would remain online, allowing continued play. The statement expressed gratitude to the community for their support throughout the game's lifecycle.

The decision to pull the game has been met with disappointment, as evidenced by the negative reviews on its Steam page. Many players feel that the game is now effectively "dead," contributing to its overall 'mixed' user review rating. However, some players, like one with over 380 hours of gameplay, have left positive reviews, acknowledging the fun they had while it lasted.

Saber Interactive, known for their recent success with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, continues to work on several licensed movie games, including John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game. Additionally, Turok: Origins and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 are also in development.
