Image Comics has announced its latest project: Free Planet, an ambitious space opera described as a fusion of East of West and Dune. This new series is sure to captivate sci-fi enthusiasts.

Written by Aubrey Sitterson (No One Left to Fight) and illustrated by Jed Dougherty (Savage Hearts), Free Planet #1 boasts cover art from Dougherty and Fico Ossio. Image Comics provides this official synopsis:

Humanity's first truly free planet celebrates its independence. However, revolutionary heroes must now defend its unique energy source from warring intergalactic forces while grappling with the true meaning of freedom. SITTERSON and DOUGHERTY blend the complex history of EAST OF WEST with the emotional scope of SAGA in a narrative exploring freedom's price.

Sitterson describes Free Planet as "the shape of comics to come," aiming for a "literary comic" rich in visual detail. Dougherty notes the shift towards a more serious tone in his artwork, reflecting the story's themes of revolution, rebuilding, and the pursuit of justice.
