As a fan of thatgamecompany's Sky: Children of the Light, you're likely drawn to its captivating art style, immersive presentation, and compelling storyline, rather than just the gameplay itself. The excitement is about to reach new heights with the game's first-ever in-game animated feature, "The Two Embers," set to premiere starting July 21st. This silent animated feature will delve into the origin story of Sky, offering players a unique cinematic experience within the game itself.
"The Two Embers" is a two-part narrative. The first part follows the journeys of two children, separated by time yet connected in profound ways. The story begins with a young orphan living on the outskirts of The Ruler's City, a once-thriving place now in decline. The child's life changes when they discover a wounded baby manatee, leading to an exploration of themes like grief, loneliness, and the significance of small acts of kindness. Above them, The Ruler observes the kingdom's decay as a foreboding storm approaches.
Without any dialogue or voiceovers, "The Two Embers" relies solely on visuals, music, and emotion to convey its powerful story. Despite the absence of words, the film effectively communicates the child's sorrow and the manatee's role in sparking a glimmer of hope.
Sky: Children of the Light has released the first look at "The Two Embers: Part One." You can watch the trailer right here:
Every week, a new chapter of the film will be unlocked inside Sky Cinema, an in-game movie theatre created specifically for this event. Alongside each chapter, new in-game content related to the story will be released, allowing players to explore the narrative more deeply through gameplay.
Instead of releasing "The Two Embers" as a standalone film or on a streaming platform, thatgamecompany is integrating it directly into the Sky experience. This innovative approach not only enhances the game but also elevates it to a new level of storytelling. The film is produced by Light & Realm in collaboration with thatgamecompany, and co-produced by Illusorium Studios and Orchid. This project represents the most ambitious transmedia storytelling endeavor by thatgamecompany to date. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out Sky on the Google Play Store.
In addition to "The Two Embers," thatgamecompany is also preparing for Aurora's concert, further enriching the Sky universe. For more gaming news, don't miss our coverage of the Fast-Paced Multiplayer Sim Cooking Battles' Closed Beta Test.
