Author:Kristen Update:Jan 02,2026

During its latest alpha test phase, EA has introduced microtransactions into Skate ahead of the official release date announcement.

As reported by Insider Gaming, developer Full Circle integrated microtransaction mechanics into the ongoing closed alpha test for EA's free-to-play Skate reboot.

Players can purchase a virtual currency called San Van Bucks with real money, which unlocks cosmetic items. Full Circle aims to refine Skate's monetization system, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring a "seamless purchasing experience within the Skate store."

"Your feedback will be invaluable in shaping the Early Access launch experience," the studio added.

Insider Gaming notes that Full Circle has informed testers about a full progress wipe before Skate enters early access. Any purchased San Van Bucks will be refunded and available again when early access begins.

Skate is scheduled for early access release in 2025. Initially announced during EA Play in 2020, the project was described as being in "very early" development at the time. Full Circle has since maintained transparency through closed playtests and regular development updates via its "The Board Room" video series.

In 2022, the studio confirmed the official title as 'skate.' while announcing its free-to-play release model across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms.
