Dynasty Warriors 10 Was Canceled

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Rises from the Ashes of a Canceled Predecessor

Dynasty Warriors: Origins, launching January 17, 2025, boasts exhilarating hack-and-slash combat set against the backdrop of China's Three Kingdoms period. However, the game's genesis is marked by a surprising twist: the cancellation of its intended predecessor, Dynasty Warriors 10.

Omega Force, the development team, initially embarked on creating Dynasty Warriors 10, a project envisioned as a traditional stage-clearing experience reminiscent of Dynasty Warriors 7. However, advancements in gaming technology, particularly the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and other next-gen consoles, prompted a strategic shift. The team recognized the potential to create a far more innovative and engaging experience.

The decision to scrap Dynasty Warriors 10 wasn't easy. Producer Tomohiko Sho explained that witnessing the power of modern consoles spurred the change in direction. While abandoning the considerable work already invested in Dynasty Warriors 10 was challenging, the team salvaged key elements, seamlessly integrating them into Origins.

Producer Masamichi Oba highlighted the incorporation of free-roaming exploration, a feature originally planned for the canceled title, and a more richly detailed narrative focusing on the Three Kingdoms Era. These salvaged elements, combined with the enhanced capabilities of modern hardware, have resulted in a game that surpasses the original vision for Dynasty Warriors 10. The result is Dynasty Warriors: Origins, a game that leverages technological advancements to deliver a more strategic and immersive gameplay experience. Deluxe Edition players have already experienced the fast-paced action, and the full release promises a captivating journey into the heart of the Three Kingdoms.
