"Open Drive: Steer Cars with Eye-Tracking Now on Android Early Access"

Open Drive, a groundbreaking racing game for mobile devices, has recently launched in early access on Android. Developed by the charity organization SpecialEffect, in collaboration with Sun & Moon Studios, this game is more than just a typical mobile racing experience—it's a testament to inclusive gaming.

What’s the Game About?

Open Drive is designed to be highly adaptable, catering to a wide variety of player needs. Whether you prefer using touch controls, a keyboard and mouse, switch access, or a game controller, the game accommodates your preferred method of play. This inclusivity extends to players using alternative input methods such as eye gaze, thanks to a mobile-specific eye control feature. By using a compatible eye gaze camera, players can steer their vehicle simply by looking left or right, opening up the game's expansive open-world environments—Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow—to a broader audience.

This level of accessibility is a significant achievement, particularly for players with physical disabilities who often face barriers with games that only support traditional input methods. Open Drive's gameplay is incredibly flexible, allowing players to enjoy leisurely drives while collecting orbs, or engage in high-speed pursuits and daring jumps using vehicles like the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster. Players can also adjust the game's speed to suit their comfort level. For a closer look at what Open Drive offers, check out the early access announcement trailers below.

Open Drive Is Now Out in Early Access

Currently available in early access on Android, Open Drive automatically detects and adjusts to the control method you're using, including full support for Switch Access on Android. Each input method features tailored setups. For instance, touch controls offer 'Precise' and 'Classic' modes, allowing players to steer through taps or directional control. Similarly, specific configurations are available for Switch Access, mouse, keyboard, and Android-compatible gamepads or controllers.

Although the eye control functionality isn't fully implemented yet, players can expect its complete integration when the full version of the game launches later this summer. In the meantime, you can explore Open Drive in its early access phase on the Google Play Store.
