Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 27,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA subsidiary. Eurogamer reports her departure, expected in the coming weeks, follows her tenure as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last October. EA has yet to comment.

The commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a subject of speculation since its release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's departure is unrelated to the game's performance, EA's official stance on sales figures remains pending. Their Q3 2025 financial results, scheduled for February 4th, are anticipated to provide further clarity.

BioWare has confirmed the absence of any planned DLC for The Veilguard, shifting its focus to Mass Effect 5. This follows a period of internal restructuring at EA, resulting in a division into sports and non-sports sectors, and subsequent layoffs at BioWare in August 2023. These layoffs, affecting approximately 50 employees including veteran staff, occurred concurrently with the release of Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3. The outsourcing of Star Wars: The Old Republic also took place around this time, supposedly to allow BioWare to concentrate on its Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises.

The unveiling of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (previously titled Dreadwolf) in 2024 initially met with mixed reception. Negative reactions to the initial trailer prompted a swift release of gameplay footage to appease fans. The name change itself also drew criticism. However, subsequent impressions of the game have been generally favorable.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. The question now for fans is whether BioWare will be given the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard.
