Dishonored 2 Receives Unexpected Update After Nine Years

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2: Bug Fixes and Language Updates

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This minor patch appears focused on bug fixes and language file updates. The update's size is minimal (230MB), although Xbox users report needing a full 40GB re-download.

Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored 2 and the recent Deathloop, is currently occupied with the development of Marvel's Blade. This update arrives amidst speculation about a potential performance enhancement, with many fans hoping for a 60 FPS patch. While other Arkane titles offer 60 FPS options on newer consoles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. The possibility of a future 60 FPS update, perhaps coinciding with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, remains open.

The update's release comes at a time when a third mainline Dishonored game is highly anticipated by fans. However, the closure of Arkane Austin in 2024, the studio responsible for the original Dishonored and Prey, significantly impacts Arkane's development capacity. This, coupled with Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade (which lacks a confirmed release date), suggests a potential lengthy wait for any future Dishonored installments.
