Devolver Digital's Bold Move: New Game Launch on GTA 6 Release Day

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 26,2025

Rockstar Games has officially set the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) as May 26, 2026. This monumental announcement has already sparked significant buzz across the gaming world, with many expecting it to be one of the most anticipated and commercially successful game launches of the decade.

In a playful yet competitive response, indie game publisher Devolver Digital has teased its own plans to coincide with this major event. Known for its unconventional and often humorous marketing tactics, Devolver took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that it will also be launching a mysterious new title on the exact same day—May 26, 2026.

This cheeky move is not entirely unexpected. The publisher had previously promised to release a game whenever Rockstar finally revealed the GTA 6 launch window—a promise now being taken quite seriously. Devolver’s message was clear and bold:

You can’t escape us.

May 26, 2026 it is then. https://t.co/eVa5bB1vrh

Devolver Digital has built a strong reputation through its diverse portfolio of indie hits such as Hotline Miami, Enter the Gungeon, The Messenger, Katana Zero, and Cult of the Lamb. Whether this new title will be a sequel to an existing franchise or a completely original concept remains under wraps.

Among the titles currently in development are Baby Steps and Stick It to the Stickman, both expected before the end of 2025. Further out on the horizon are confirmed sequels like Enter the Gungeon 2 and Human Fall Flat 2, though the latter’s developer, No Brakes Games, has clarified that it won’t be clashing with GTA 6 on launch day.

We can confirm that Human Fall Flat 2 will NOT be releasing on May 26, 2026 https://t.co/zl3GbjSmia

With over a year until GTA 6 hits shelves, anticipation continues to build. As Rockstar’s first numbered entry since GTA V in 2013, expectations are sky-high. Gamers worldwide are already preparing for a day-one purchase, eager to dive into what promises to be another groundbreaking open-world experience.

Whether Devolver Digital’s mysterious project will stand up against such a juggernaut remains to be seen. But given the publisher’s history of creative risk-taking, it's sure to be an entertaining effort.
